Canadian National Committee of the Commission Internationale de l’Éclairage(CNC/CIE)

The Commission Internationale de l’Éclairage is a world wide technical, scientific and cultural, non-profit autonomous organization with its Central Bureau located in Vienna, Austria.

The collective Canadian voice of people interested in the science and art of light and lighting, the CNC/CIE represents Canada to the world.

The Government of Canada (through the National Research Council, NRC) pays the annual membership fees for Canadians, and expects Canadians to get involved in the work of the committee. NRC's Institute for National Measurement Standards is responsible for setting up the Canadian National Committee of the CIE and provides its Secretariat.

The Terms of Reference of the CNC/CIE are:

• to collect and reconcile the many views of the Canadian lighting community on relevant issues;
• to identify, represent and promote the capabilities and distinctive competence of its Canadian lighting community internationally;
• to enhance the depth and breadth of the participation of the Canadian lighting community in the activities and events of the CIE and related organizations;
• to establish the mechanisms for communicating to the Canadian lighting community the views of the CIE and information about activities of the CIE;
• to distribute appropriate documentation, including the newsletter of the CIE;
• to attract and stage international events of value to the Canadian lighting community.

 

The CNC/CIE Workshop: Opportunities and Challenges in Energy-Efficient Lighting was held in Toronto, Ontario on November 30, 2012. Technical presentations are available at at CIE-CNC Workshop 2012.

The 2011 and 2012 Annual Reports are now available. Members are requested to review the 'Action Items' from the 2012 Annual Meeting.

2012-Nov-07:  The electronic International Lighting Vocabulary is available FREE through the CIE eILV web page!

2011-Aug-25: The updated International Lighting Vocabulary is now available for purchase in print or PDF through the CIE webshop!

2011-Oct-2: The 56th annual meeting of the Canadian National Committee of CIE (CNC/CIE), and the 2011 Annual Meeting of the CIE/USAwas held in Ottawa, Ontario October 2-4, 2011. Technical presentations are available at 2011 Technical Conference.

2011-Nov-14: Recommendations on Minimum Levels of Solar UV Exposure (CIE 201:2011) is now available through the CIE webshop!
